Web address: http://www.cri.ulaval.ca/?home
Here is the link to check for studies or carrer opportunities (French only) : http://www.crchuq.ulaval.ca/carriere/offres
You will find here all the necessary information about the teams, the research project and platforms.

This research centre is directed by Dr. Michel G. Bergeron and is concentrating on fundamental and applied research on different pathogens: Bacteria, virus, protozoan parasites.

The main research axes are the following:
- Microbial genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics
- The pathogenesis of infectious diseases
- Resistance of pathogens to antimicrobial agents
- The prevention of infections
- Molecular diagnostic
- New therapeutic approaches
- Clinical research

Close to 250 people are working under the leadership of 11 fundamentalist researchers (Ph.D.) and 11 clinical researchers (M.D.). Our 25 project leaders and 78 graduate and post-graduate students originate from more than 15 countries.

I am currently working in this centre with Dr Barbara Papadopolou (Leishmania, gene expression regulation).
Fell free to contact me for any question related to this Research centre.
Barbara's team is currently composed of :
- 2 lab assisants
- 1 Master student
- 4 PhD students
- 2 Post-docs

Other people working in this centre, and who want to participate in Lab Network, are invited to mention it in this topic.

This message is an attempt to complete the brief (and good) description made by the creator of this forum (namely Aurélien) concerning the research center we are currentlu doing our PhD in, and also to talk a bit more about Marc Ouellette's group (my boss).

Concerning the research center, i'll be brief : as mention, about 250 people, an open area, different area investigated (glycobiology and innate immunity, vaccin technology, diagnostic tool including microfluidic approach, bacterial genetic mobile elements and resistance acquisition, respiratory virus with clinical and fundamental approach, host molecule acquisition by HIV, HIV and parasite co-infection, resistance and gene expression within Leishmania, antibacterial resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae or Staphylococcus aureus...).
This is a privilegious environment to get acces to a wide range of technology, expertise, knowledge and very different project and group leaders. Enough for the add, i'm not paid for that.

Marc Ouellette Group :
Subjects:
- Leishmania and molecular mechanism of resistance to anti-parasitic drugs (Antimony, miltefosine, amphotericin B ...)
- Strep and Staph resistance
- Phage therapy
About the group :
- about 15 to 20 people, now 4 PhD students, 6 post doc
- a very good group, an inspiring group leader
- in my opinion, one of the best team in the research center (and not only cause i'm part of it)

Need/want to know more ?
Register here, and ask all the questions you want, we'll answer

Good luck

I will add a little bit of information about Michel G. Bergeron,

Appart from being the center's founder, Dr. Bergeron (a physician and researcher) has research interests in rapid diagnostics and "invisible condom" microbicide.

I am doing my Ph.D. in the rapid diagnostic team.

We are working with:
Micro and nano particles
Microarrays
Microfluidics
Real-time PCR
Resistance
Respiratory viruses

We are about 35 people in the team, 4 Ph.D. students, 1 Master student.
Since Dr. Bergeron is not always available without an appointment, we have 4 project leaders that can give some help or insight in the daily research activities.
